Mycotoxin Analytical Programme (MAP)
The primary role of the laboratory is that of functioning as the statutory service provider for the analysis of groundnuts for aflatoxins, for export. One of the key performance indicators of the laboratory is to increase its effectiveness of its current statutory responsibilities.
To that end the laboratory has excelled in technically optimizing its accuracy and efficiencies of existing and new analytical methods of mycotoxin analyses. The laboratory utilizes sensitive, ISO 17025 accredited analytical systems (HPLC) for the testing of matrices for mycotoxins (SANAS accredited testing laboratory number T0248). The efficiency of the methods employed enables the testing facility to expand to the point where it can analyze up to 200 samples per day. Accuracy, quality and speed of analysis have been the basis of the success of the laboratory in sustaining its competitive advantage.
The laboratory has also continued to focus on expanding into the non-statutory dried fruit, tree nuts, spices and consumer food product market segments, generating additional income from mycotoxin analyses of these matrices.

Fats Analytical Programme (FAP)
Increasing its services in support of the competitiveness of the South African perishable product industries, the laboratory provides an additional service analysing food commodities for fat content (unsaturated vs saturated fatty acids ratios) and rancidity (peroxide values).
The laboratory has excelled in terms of its financial viability, and continues to provide service excellence.
