Result Area (Extract from Financing Agreement):
Applications submitted and defended to obtain new EU-MRLs on crops exported to EU from South Africa and development of alternative chemical phytosanitary treatments.
Activities planned for 2007 - Annual Work Plan 4 (AWP4)
- Continue with Regulation Development initiatives like MRL trials, residue analysis and data compilation;
- Management of the Regulation Development process under SABS;
- Visits to EU and one ACP country to establish relevant contacts for dossier submissions and gather up-to date information on Import Tolerances and EU MRL regulations that affect SA data collection. Visit MRL trials in other ACP country and
- Continue with contracted projects under AWP 1, AWP 2 and AWP3 and finalise them.
Activities in 2006 (AWP3)
- Continue with Regulation Development initiatives like MRL trials, residue analysis and data compilation;
- Management of the Regulation Development process under SABS;
- Visits to EU for MRL investigation;
- Approve, initiate and continue Adaptive Research Projects (Growers Associations and less-organised groups will prepare and submit proposals for PIP funding; organise and sub-contract Adaptive Research services from Research Institutes or consultants).
Activities in 2005 (AWP2)
- Conclude contract with SABS for field trials and pesticide residue analysis;
- Execute field trials and residue analysis to generate data for registrations;
- Exchange MRL data with COLEACP to avoid duplication;
- Establish Expert Pool to evaluate reports from Adaptive Research Projects;
- Calls for Proposals to co-fund Adaptive Research Projects;
- Regular meetings of the PIP Management Committee to approve funding for Adaptive Research, change requests and final research reports;
- Contracts with Research Institutes and farmer groups to carry out Adaptive Research Projects.
Activities in 2004 (AWP1)
- Drafting contract with service provider for Regulation Development;
- First MRL trials;
- Obtain crop protocols and technical inputs for MRL trials from COLEACP;
- PM to visit COLEACP and PIP Management team in Brussels;
- Develop process to propose Adaptive Research Projects and to evaluate proposals;
- Establishment of PIP Management Committee to evaluate and approve funding for Adaptive Research Proposals and
- First Adaptive Research Projects.
