SA PIP (South African Pesticide Initiative Program) is co-funded by the European Commission and other stakeholders of the program, with an estimated total budget of €7.8 million.

The aim of the program is to assist horticultural export producers in South Africa to comply with EU export requirements for food safety and consumer protection, in particular related to pesticides regulations to ensure continued access to the EU market for South African fruit and vegetables.

The stakeholders are inadequately aware of changes in the EU legislation related to food safety and consumer protection, and also lack the understanding of the impact that this will have on the export requirements for its produce.	Information and Communication Component
There are insufficient financial resources available to the Growers Associations and Emerging Farmers specifically, to collect data and conduct trials required justifying the approval of legislation that would accommodate their current farming practice. Conducting of research for developing alternative chemical phytosanitary treatments to reduce the residues of problematic pesticides on fruit and vegetables.	Regulation Component
Lack of local resources leads to insufficient adaptation of agricultural practices.	Agricultural Practice
