Experential Training Programme

PPECB offers full-time paid experiential training to qualifying students at each of our 11 regional offices. Gain hands-on experience while working in the agricultural export industry, network with professionals in the agricultural sector and learn from some of the most experienced specialists in South Africa.

In recognizing the social need to develop suitable candidates for the Agriculture industry, PPECB has embarked on a programme to provide students from various national tertiary institutions with the opportunity to complete their experiential training year with the company, as they require a year’s in-service training at a company of their choice to qualify for their National Diploma.

This is a win-win situation where the students not only gain the necessary experience to complete their National Diploma qualification, but also get exposure to the industry. For PPECB the programme provides us with the opportunity to develop prospective future employees who know the company’s environment, are technically qualified, thus providing PPECB and the industry with competent Quality Assessors.  This programme therefore contributes to three ends; namely the national skills upliftment of the country while giving something back to the education sector; creating a competent pool of Quality practitioners for the industry and ensuring qualified Quality Assessors for PPECB.

How does the PPECB Experiential training programme work?

To ensure demographic representation within the organisation, students from a variety of tertiary institutions throughout the country are invited to participate.  Students studying in the field of Agricultural Sciences, Food Technology and Environmental Science and where the prescribed curriculum of the National Diploma requires them to complete a set time of experiential training within their relevant field of study, are the ideal applicants.

Following an equitable recruitment process, 20 students will be selected to participate in our annual programme.

For a period of 8 – 10 months students will be placed at one of our 11 Regional offices where they will complete a range of internal training programmes to build their knowledge of our products/services and allow them to gain the practical experience required to complete their projects as prescribed by their tertiary institutions. Students will gain the opportunity to network with a number or stakeholders within in the agricultural export industry and gain insight into this dynamic and fast growing international industry.

To date the programme has trained 23 students and a further 17 students will be completing their training in November 2005.
